FAQ

Below are some frequently asked questions when temping.

I haven’t completed a temporary assignment before, what is the general protocol?

As a temporary you are an employee of GWR and as a rule, temping in a client’s office is similar to being a guest in someone’s home.  Best not to be too familiar and always remain on a professional level by requesting information relating to the  client’s operating standards, eg “what time would you prefer I take my lunch break?” or “may I make a brief personal phone call?” Always be flexible and project a positive attitude. Confidentiality is very important so please don’t discuss or disclose information regarding our client or the documentation you process during your assignment.

What if I am sick or have to organise an appointment in work hours?

If you are ill or unable to be at your temporary assignment on time for any reason, it is imperative you notify the team at GWR prior to your assignment start time on 49621877 or phone 0408 434 020.  If you are looking for a permanent position, please arrange interviews outside working hours. If you have a problem please phone GWR so that we can help you.

What is the normal protocol for mobile phones on assignment?

Mobile phones beeping or ringing can be very distracting to others in the office as well as interfering with productivity.  Whilst on assignment, please silence your phone and return any messages or phone calls during your lunch break.  Obviously, in the case of an emergency advise your supervisor of the situation and your need to attend to the call.

How do I get paid?

At the end of each week you will need to complete your timesheet and have your supervisor sign it to authorise the hours worked.  Please ensure you check your timesheet carefully to ensure it is completed accurately. Any overtime worked must be requested and authorised by your supervisor.   It is your responsibility to fax or email your timesheet on Friday. Payment will be calculated and deposited on Mondays directly into your nominated bank account.

Can I apply for a permanent role within the company I am temping for?

It is important for you to advise us of your interest in a particular role within the company and we will then advise our client of your interest.  Often temporaries find the ideal permanent role from temping as they can demonstrate their professionalism, talents and productivity first hand and both parties are able to “try before you buy”!

What do I do if I have an accident on assignment?

Whilst on assignment it is imperative to adhere to the client’s safety requirements and do not perform any function where health or lives may be endangered.  In support of our commitment to a safe working environment, it is important you wear the appropriate attire as advised by us.
Always familiarise yourself with the client’s safety procedures and evacuation procedures on arrival of an assignment.  Don’t lift any heavy weights which may cause an injury and always notify us immediately of any injury or accident.

What else do I need to know?

  • Smoking is not acceptable outside designated meal breaks
  • Indulging in drugs and alcohol will not be tolerated and will result in immediate dismissal
  • Personal use of the internet also will not be tolerated and will also result in immediate dismissal
